In Da Nang, travelers can get a boat ride along the Han River, but to Hoi An, it’s impossible to find one. A few centuries ago, Co Co (or De Vong) river flowed from the Han River (near the Marble Mountains) to the mouth of the Thu Bon River in Hoi An. It allowed merchant boats to move between two port cities. After the king’s decision in 19th century, traffic on it became busier because the foreign vessels had to come to Da Nang first. This led to a decline in commerce of Hoi An trading post in the end of 19th up to date. At the present, many parts of the Co Co river are filled by the sand.
