Villages in Hoi An’s countryside provide visitors different experiences, beside peaceful sceneries and authentic life of people. A half-day tour to 3 villages (vegetable, pottery, coconut) is designed for those who love to get insight into the real Vietnam and culture of rural residents. In Thanh Ha village, people have been producing potteries and other clay items since 17^th century. In Tra Que vegetable village, farmers still using traditional techniques to grow herbs, a must for any Hoi An’s food specialties. In Cam Thanh village (aka the Coconut village), fishermen access the water palm forest and catch fishes by a basket boat. Today, they use it to carry visitors around on peaceful rivers, and show their daily work and entertainment. Hoi An countryside can’t be missed in your time at Hoi An.

Highlights

Departure & Return

Tour guide will be in the hotel reception at 8 a.m or 1:30 pm. Then, the driver takes traveler(s) to pottery village, vegetable village, coconut village and placed mentioned in the itinerary. When the tour ends, he drops off in the hotel. A small extra fee is charged for pick up and drop off in South Hoi An area (Hoiana resort for example).

Basket Boat Ride - Hoi An Coconut Forest

Near the estuary of Thu Bon River, Hoi An Coconut Forest is 200-years-old.During the Vietnam war, communists (Vietcong) made full use of its vastness, interlaced canals and inaccessibility by big boats, to build a hiding base. They used basket boats to move around like locals and now, travelers have a similar experience. During the ride, how people catch small crabs by the rob or fishes by the net, makeaccessories by palm leaf and the “dance” (boat spinning) absolutely can be expected.In 2009, the forest became a part of a Unesco world biosphere reserve.

Tra Que Vegetable Village

Farmers in Tra Que village grow fresh vegetables and herbs with the highest quality in Hoi An. For over 400 years, they have been using traditional, organic techniques that don’t exist anymore in many areas today. Here, travellers have the chance to learn about this know-how, under the instruction of local growers. If traveling with kids, farming experiences give them a fun-filled time, apart from educational meaning.

Water Buffalo Experience

Water buffalo is the best friend of Vietnamese farmers. Because of its importance in the agriculture, killing and eating it were banned. Children offen “hang out” with this friendly animal to let it swim in the river and eat grass. And then, they ride it to return home. In Hoi An’s countryside, visitors today still have the chance to do the same. The ride may be not found anywhere in the region.

Thanh Ha pottery village

Make full use of local source of clay, inhabitants of Thanh Ha Village have been making pottery since 16th century. During the time Hoi An was a prosperious trading port, the products here are for exportation. In a workshop, visitors will have the chance to create their first bowl, tea pot or vase, under the instruction of the artisan.

What Should I Prepare?

No Buddhist temples and other religious places in the tour, so visitors don’t need to cover well. In sunny months (January to September), it’s necessary to bring sun cream, sun glasses, hat/cap, and long pants, long-sleeve shirt (if dont want to have tanning lines).
