Hoi An Ancient Town Attractions

Spreading over an area of 30 hectares, Hoi An Old Town owns more than 1,100 timber buildings varying in function or type. In the oldest street, the Japanese bridge spans a small canal and today becomes the town’s emblem. Because it was never flooded, Chinese temples and assembly halls are built beside it. In the end, a market is established. Located in lower lands, the Lantern St and Riverside St are formed later. They are also “attractions” where tourists are pleasured by different interests, such as plentiful fairy lantern lights at night.

In 1999, Hoi An Old Town and My Son Sanctuary won the Unesco title “world heritage site”. Since then, Hoi An’s tourism began to boom, and many buildings were converted into restaurants, café, coffee shops, bars, souvenir stores or handicraft workshops as a result. The best-preserved ones open their doors, to allow the tourists to see their intact architecture over centuries. A ticket is sold, to make sure that the finance is enough to pay the staff and restoration costs. With it, sightseers can walk in some places (now 5) to learn local history and culture.

Recently, contemporary places for entertainment are added into nearby islands, giving to visitors “something different”. Several of Vietnam’s best culture shows are presented there. This article names all tourist attractions in Hoi An Old Town, in proper groups.

No matter planning to sightsee all in a trip or one by one in a couple of days, the best top five is always the find. Local guides recommend this quintet for the first ticket: (1) Japanese Covered Bridge (2) Fukian Assembly Hall (3) Old House of Tan Ky, (4) Traditional Art Performance House and (5) A Museum.
