Departure & Return

Tour guide will be in the hotel reception at 8 a.m or 1:30 p.m. Then, the driver rides to the Marble Mountains. In the end of the tour, he drops off travelers in the hotel or another place in Da Nang center if requested. Picking up and dropping off in Son Tra peninsula is charged a small extra fee.

Non Nuoc Sculpture Village

Near the foot of the Marble Mountains, travellers will visit a workshop where local artisans are still at work and plenty of creative stone sculptures they carve are placed around. There are many photo and shopping opportunities.

Am phu cave "The Hell"

This “Hell Cave” is one of the largest caves in Da Nang. People tried many times in the past to measure how big it is, but soon gave up. Local people think that the spring in its bottom is connected with the sea. Served as a hiding place of Vietcong during the American war, its entrance was covered by bombing but later opened. Buddhist concept about life of people after death is depicted here, and that’s really awesome to hear from the guide.

xa loi tower

An octagonal tower where xa loi (Buddha relic) has been preserved and worshipped. Its first copy is in Linh Ung Pagoda Son Tra Peninsula.

Linh Ung Pagoda Marble Mountains

This is the first Budhist temple in the mountain, renamed by a king as Linh Ung meaning “wishes answered miraculously” in 19th century. One word in the former name is same to his birth name, a taboo in feudal times. Its worshipping hall faces the sea and has a tiled roof topped with dragons and phoenixes. The Buddha of Three Times are honoured inside, each representing the past, present or future. The monk leader here constructed 2 other sister pagodas in the city.

tang chon cave

Just behind the Linh Ung Pagoda, this cave contains 5 chambers and each one has temples and statues. Visitors need to go through tunnels and climb steep steps to explore all of them.

Van Thong Cave

Entrance of this tunnel-like cave is at the highest elevation in the mountain. Visitors can climb up to one of the peaks from here.

cong troi "the Heaven Gate"

The highest point that visitors can reach. There, a scenic sweeping view is provided, with cool breezes and many photo opportunities.

Hoa Nghiem cave

After an ancient three-arched gate, this dome-like cave has a Bodhisattva shrine, and the oldest rock incriptions, one of which mentioning Hoi An for the first time.

Huyen Khong Cave

This is the largest cave chamber that allow sunshine come into from its “leaky” ceiling. In the sunny days, the fall of light looks amazing. By the rock walls, there are holy temples where locals worship different gods in folk religions. Infertile women come here to drink “sacred water” and pray for childrens. And, young people give offprings to shrine of Ong to ba nguyet to pray for love making and marriage.

Tam Thai Pagoda

This is another important Buddhist temple in the Marble Mountains. It’s built in 19th century, based on a promise of a king who survived by water conjured from the Buddha here. Except the statues of Buddha of Three Times, visitors can see many artifacts given by his son. House of a princess who lived to practice Buddha teachings is just next door.

Vong Giang Dai

An outlook where visitors can see all of other mountains in the complex, surrounding plain and a beautiful sunset in the late afternoon.

What Should I Wear?

Wear lightweight, comfortable shirt and pant to stay cool during the trip, a good pair of shoes is required because of having to walk many on steep steps and go through tunnels.
It’s needed to wear respectively because the caves harbour sacred temples and Buddhist pagodas. Simply, wear clothes that armpits, navel and knees are covered. See-through dresses are not recommended.
Sun glasses, sun cream and cash.
In the wet season, bring own rain poncho and waterproof footwares (if possible).

Are the Caves Dangerous?

Not really if travelers listen to advice from tour guide in some places. Generally, all ages can participate and there are no caving gear, equipments and special skills required. In the rainy season, the caves are not flooded or inaccessible.
